Prayer for the one whose feet are on shifting sand 2

I don’t know how your year has evolved, but I can tell you that mine looks nothing like I thought it would at the start of the year.

This year has never really settled into a rhythm for me. It has been a time of continual shifts and changes. Just when I think I am finally getting a hang of things, I find another adjustment is required.

It is not a season of absolute breakdown, but rather a constantĀ sensation of the sand shifting beneath my feet. Maybe you can relate. If you can, then this prayer is for you (as well as me).

Prayer for the one whose feet are on shifting sand

The year has been tough
and has unfurled
entirely at odds
with your expectations.

It is hard to put a finger
on what,
exactly,
has shifted.

Nothing seems to be tangible,
the ground under your feet
is constantly unstable.
Not in an earth-shattering way,
for then you could rebuild.

But instead a relentless,
imperceptible,
unsettling,
that leaves you
continually
disoriented
and unable
to find solid ground.

In the midst of uncertainty,
may you find around you
people
that will walk
the journey
with you.

In the midst of confusion,
may you find within you
the strength to get through,
the next minute
the next hour
the next day.

In the midst of unpredictability,
may you find
hope
to anchor
your soul.

In the midst of questions,
may you find answers,
and enough
illumination
for your next step.

Amen
