There is Enough 2

There is enough to go around.

You need to decide it and then warmly embrace it,

Then carry this transformational truth around with you,

Because I promise you, friend,

It will change your life.

Enough gazing over the fence and wondering what it’s like to have someone else’s garden.

Step away from it all,

And find rest in the sanctity and security,

Of the borders of your own life,

And of what God has specifically put in your hands to tend.

Let Him guide you to His green pastures.

It’s there that you’ll find the rest and inner peace and the security of knowing that this is the garden that has been landscaped specifically with you in mind.

Find your own lane.

Run in it with grace and poise and purpose.

When others threaten to overcrowd it,

Or push you out of the way,

Instead of holding your fist tightly closed,

Worried that they will take what you have from you,

Open it and extend your hand generously,

Whispering to yourself,

‘There is enough.’

There is enough for everyone.

There will always be a newer,

And a better down the road,

A glossier, ‘over the fence,’

Which is why it is so important to get your eyes fixed firmly on what it is you uniquely bring to this world.

Competition is for those who don’t know who they are and what they bring to the table.

Find out who you are.

Swim around in your own loveliness.

Wear it confidently.

Understand that you are graced to be who you are and no one else can do this job.

Only you can fill the pages of the script that is your life.

So be true to it and stop wishing you had someone else’s life.

Comparison is for those who don’t know the treasure of what they have in their hands.

Find the beauty in your day.

Fall in love over and over again with every aspect of your life,

Even the mess, and the imperfect and the hard days.

Generosity is for those who live a life where the words ‘there is enough,’

Are engraved on their palms.

Generosity and enough partner together in a beautiful transaction that ensures competition and comparison are exposed for the short sighted nemeses they are.

Cultivate deep gratitude for what you have been given,

Right now, today, in the midst of whatever that is,

And you will always have enough.

The future is not where you’ll finally find your enough.

So stop looking to it as though it’s the answer you’ve been searching for.

Stop striving for the more,

The perfect,

The end,

The other,

The better.

Call it’s bluff!

You have already made it.

You will find that knowing you have enough will cause an explosion of goodness and fruitfulness that you weren’t expecting,

As you find yourself under a waterfall of not just enough,

But of abundance,

You’ll be trying to find ways of giving your enough away because you have so much.

And when it threatens to become untrue,

When you look around and feel the life you have isn’t measuring up to what you wanted it to,

Remind yourself of these three words,

‘ There is enough.’

There is more than enough room for you to be who you are friend and to live the life you have been called to.

So run in your own lane.

Open your hands and arms wider with generosity,

And steward well the life you’ve been given.

About Cate Williams

We all have a story and until recently, Cate was happy to keep hers to herself. When she was 6, her singing teacher put her in the corner of the room. The reason, she was told, was that she wasn’t opening her mouth wide enough when she was singing. She was shy and because of that, she was shut up and so she shut down. The day stayed etched in her memory as a painful experience and one that influenced the person she was for years... Many years later, Cate now takes the stage, sometimes in front of thousands of people. Her voice and the songs she writes, have been heard around Australia and the world. Her reluctance to share her story has now been replaced by a realisation that many stories are the same. The isolation and shame that often drives us into feeling like we are alone in our story, is in fact her main motivation when it comes to writing, whether its in music or as a blogger. Many of us struggle with the same issues of trying to make sense of this crazy world and of trying to overcome the voices that tell us we can’t and we won’t. Cate's words resound with hope and love, and her message is one that says you’re not alone and that you can. It calls the ugly beautiful and it brings the hopeless into something redemptive. Cate is a mum, wife, singer, song writer, pastor, teacher and blogger and you can read more about her here.

    Hi Cate,

That was such a beautiful piece that I just had to comment! What life giving words, so soothing and freeing.

Yes I have done it before, to give with mixed feelings and it is horrible., which reminds me of the verse saying God loves a cheerful giver as I have received gifts and favours from cheerful givers and it warms my heart.

Thanks for that piece and I think I will inscribe the saying, “There is Enough” to remind me to give freely and share in the joy.

Have a blessed day on this not so warm day in Perth!
