Pearls of Wisdom 1

“The heart of man is very much like the sea, it has its storms, it has its tides and in its depths, it has its pearls too.”

Vincent van Gogh

To describe the human heart is very much like the sea is perfect, to me.

Indeed, we endure the storms.

We know the rise and fall of the tides; the highs of joy, the lows of suffering and everything in between.

And when we dive deep into our hearts, each of us will hold pearls of wisdom that have been formed through the grit and grind of life experience. True prosperity, unique to us all.

Our hearts are vast. Our hearts are rich and the treasures within are worthy.

I didn’t understand it when I was growing up but what we experience now, whether filled with joy or scarred by pain, will have even greater value tomorrow.

A pearl is precious today because of the shaping it experienced yesterday and many other yesterdays before that. The significance is in what it has sustained.

We can look at a pearl and see value and beauty, yet we know that it was produced by refining a bit of gravel that got into the oyster. That process has made it treasurable.

If your heart is alive, it is cultivating something of great worth; your life experience and what you have learned along the way. What we live through today can guide future generations. Every heart holds those pearls and they are a gift to those who are looking to us.

What have you been learning?

I think of those whom I admire. I am grateful for their lives and what it has developed in them. I wonder how much their pearls of wisdom might have spared me from a difficult first-hand lesson and how much they have equipped and strengthened me in generous ways.

Such is the beauty in sharing life.

As I navigate the ocean of my heart, I pay attention to the stuff being refined in its depths; all my experiences being enriched into pearls of their own, which might be of value to someone, someday.

I wonder what pearls you hold in your heart?

May you become aware of how precious they are because your heart, like the sea, is deep and filled with invaluable treasure for those looking to you and those learning around you.

Your heart is abundant.
